This word was developed for Gararrngan Yuulngin-Ban.gan (The Very Hungry Caterpillar), following the sound system of Gamilaraay. This is the way “chocolate” (originally Aztec Xocolatl and then into Spanish, French, and then English, etc.) has been translated into many languages, e.g. Japanese chokorēto, Italian cioccolato, Hawaiian kokoleka, Indonesian cokelat.
To say “chocolate bilby” we add a suffix to mean “chocolate-having”:
