A Safe, Welcoming Space for Aboriginal Men to Connect, Share Culture and Strengthen Wellbeing
Winanga-li’s Aboriginal Men’s Program (Aboriginal Fathers Group) provides a culturally safe space for Aboriginal men across Gunnedah, Narrabri and Wee Waa to come together, yarn and strengthen their wellbeing. Funded through DCJ’s ACYFS program, the group supports fathers, uncles, grandfathers and men of all ages.
About the Program
The program brings men together to build confidence, share experiences, learn practical skills and stay strong in identity and culture. It offers a community-led space where men support one another through life’s challenges while strengthening their roles within family and community.
Activities are shaped around men’s needs, interests and cultural connection, creating an environment where men feel valued, respected and supported.
How We Support Men
The program provides:
- Cultural yarning and community connection
- Workshops, activities and learning opportunities
- Parenting support and guidance
- Practical life skills and personal development
- Peer support and social connection
- Opportunities to strengthen identity, wellbeing and cultural pride
- Sessions are welcoming, relaxed and grounded in culture and community.
Who Can Access the Program
The program is open to Aboriginal men, including:
- Fathers, uncles and grandfathers
- Young men wanting guidance and connection
- Men seeking support, skills or cultural connection
- Men who want to strengthen their wellbeing and relationships
- No referral is required.
