A culturally Safe Space for Aboriginal Young People to Learn, Grow and Stay Connected

Winanga-li’s Youth Hub supports Aboriginal young people in the Gunnedah region to build confidence, strengthen identity and develop positive pathways for the future. Funded by DCJ, the Hub provides a welcoming, culturally informed environment where young people can access support, education help and structured activities.

About the Program

The Youth Hub focuses on wellbeing, cultural identity, education, leadership and life skills. Our team walks alongside young people to help them stay engaged with school, access services, build resilience and explore opportunities for training or work.

The Hub offers a safe place for young people to yarn, seek support, join group activities or simply connect with peers in a culturally grounded setting that values identity, belonging and community.

How We Support Young People

Support may include:

  • Education support, tutoring and help staying engaged with school
  • Life skills programs, leadership activities and goal setting
  • Cultural learning, identity strengthening and community connection
  • Recreational activities and youth engagement programs
  • Guidance when life feels challenging
  • Help accessing services, training or employment pathways
  • Mentoring, yarning and ongoing encouragement

Young people can drop in for support, join regular programs or participate in structured activities that build confidence and positive futures.

Who Can Access the Program

The Youth Hub supports Aboriginal young people who:

  • Want a positive, culturally safe place to connect and grow
  • Need help with school, wellbeing or life skills
  • Are seeking leadership opportunities or cultural connection
  • Would benefit from mentoring or youth support

Referrals and Access

Young people can join through:

  • Self-referral or drop-in
  • Schools
  • DCJ
  • Youth services
  • Community organisations
  • Family referral
