Culturally-Grounded Play and Learning

Winanga-li’s Supported Playgroups bring families together across Gunnedah and Narrabri to strengthen early childhood development and celebrate Aboriginal culture. The program provides a warm, welcoming environment for children aged 0 to 5 and their parents or carers.

About the Program

Supported Playgroups offer structured play and learning experiences that support children’s social, emotional and cognitive development. The program helps children build confidence, learn through play and develop skills that support school readiness.

Our playgroups also create a supportive space for parents and carers to connect, share experiences, access guidance and build strong community networks. As an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation, our approach places culture, belonging and community at the heart of early learning.

How We Support Children and Families

Playgroup activities may include:

  • Play-based learning and early development activities
  • Cultural learning, storytelling and creative play
  • Songs, games, group activities and sensory exploration
  • Support for parents around early childhood development
  • Opportunities for families to connect and build local networks
  • Guidance and referrals to health, education and community services

Sessions are welcoming, relaxed and designed to support both children and their families.
