Locations: Moree, Narrabri, Inverell/Gwydir, Tamworth, Gunnedah & Liverpool Plains (Quirindi) (Gamilaraay/Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Country)

Winanga-li ACFC is seeking passionate and committed Aboriginal Family Preservation Caseworkers to join our growing Family Support team.

In this role, you will walk alongside Aboriginal families to provide intensive, in-home support aimed at keeping children safe, connected and living with family, kin and community. You will work with families experiencing complex challenges, building trust and strengthening parenting capacity through culturally grounded, trauma-informed practice.

Family Preservation Caseworkers play a critical frontline role in preventing children entering Out of Home Care by delivering structured, wraparound support tailored to each family’s needs.

This is an Aboriginal identified position.

Key Responsibilities

Intensive Casework & Family Support

  • Deliver intensive, home-based casework support to families (including weekly home visits)
  • Work alongside families to co-design and implement Family Action Plans
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children, families and kin

Case Management & Planning

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of family strengths, risks and needs
  • Develop, implement and review case plans to improve child safety and wellbeing
  • Maintain accurate, timely and compliant case records and documentation

Cultural & Therapeutic Practice

  • Deliver culturally safe, strengths-based and trauma-informed support
  • Strengthen cultural identity, kinship connections and community belonging
  • Support families to build parenting confidence and resilience

Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Work closely with DCJ, schools, health services and community partners
  • Coordinate wraparound supports and referrals for families
  • Participate in case conferences, reviews and multidisciplinary planning

Team & Professional Practice

  • Participate in supervision, reflective practice and ongoing learning
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
  • Uphold child safe standards, organisational policies and cultural safety

About You

Essential

  • Aboriginality (this is an identified role)
  • Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in Community Services, Social Work or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience working with vulnerable children, young people and families
  • Demonstrated experience in case management or family support
  • Understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal families and communities
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Current:
    • Working With Children Check
    • National Criminal Record Check
    • NSW Driver Licence

Highly Regarded

  • Experience in Family Preservation or intensive family support programs
  • Knowledge of child protection and Out of Home Care systems
  • Experience delivering in-home or wraparound services
  • Training in trauma-informed or therapeutic practice
