Yaadha Buwadjarr-gu (Father's Day)
We use the dhinawan (emu) as a symbol of Father's Day, because male emus sit on the eggs until they are hatched, and then raise the emu chicks.
Here are some colouring-in pages and/or images from previous years to download for home or classroom use.
1. Modern uses of family terms are different from the complex traditional uses.
2. We also include resources for Dhaadhaa 'Pop' and garruu 'uncle'.
3. Word order is less important in Gamilaraay because there is a lot of grammatical information in the suffixes. However, in order to avoid confusion we are now using the same pattern for Father's Day, Mother's Day, Children's Day, etc.
4. The word for 'father' is buwadjarr, although we have sometimes use Bubaa, 'Dad'.
